Submission of abstracts
Abstracts, communications and final papers should be sent by filling in both documents in the attached window. Once completed, they should be sent to the Technical Secretariat of the Congress through the following e-mail account: oceano@docomomoiberico2025.com. It is necessary to be registered in the congress to present the abstracts.
Closed period
The Iberian Docomomo Foundation, the University College of Technical Architecture of A Coruña and the Official Architects’ Association of Galicia invite any researcher interested in modern architecture to submit their scientific papers within the framework of the XIII Iberian Docomomo Congress. The Congress aims to provide an account of issues and knowledge related to the proposed themes, and to open debates between speakers and attendees, as well as to compile a selection of relevant research. Therefore, by having a proposal selected for the Proceedings, the author will commit to both attending the Congress in person and, if necessary, presenting the paper orally.
The selection of proposals will be carried out in two phases, both with blind peer review.
Submission of abstracts
For the submission of abstracts, authors must complete and sign the three requested documents before 10 January.
1. An abstract, 500 words in length, anonymous in order to guarantee anonymity in the review process, accompanied by two images related to the proposal and a brief bibliography. The theme of the Congress to which the proposal should be attached must be indicated.
2. The same document as above with the addition of the author(s)’ details and a short CV of 200 words. Proposals with more than two authors will not be accepted.
3. The assignment of rights agreement, guaranteeing that the paper is the author’s own original work and that it has not been published before.
The abstract must have scientific scope. It should justify the choice of theme, and present the methodology and sources used in the research. These requirements will form the basis of the review form to be provided to the relevant reviewers.
Once the abstracts have been received, the Organising Committee will send the reviewers the abstracts that comply with the terms of the call for papers, and will select those considered to be of sufficient quality and interest to invite their authors to submit a full article of their own of 4,000 words (notes, captions and bibliography included), which will also be subject to the blind peer review process. Acceptance of the abstract, registration in the Congress and delivery of the full text in the second phase with the appropriate quality and scientific rigour will be required in order for the paper to form part of the Proceedings, a publication with ISBN that will be given to those who register for the Congress and which will be presented at the opening of the event.
In the event that more than one abstract is submitted and accepted, the author(s) must choose one, so the corresponding article can be included in the Proceedings, foregoing the publication of the others.
Once reviewed, the acceptance of the abstracts will be communicated to their authors via email on January 30, 2025.
The deadline for receiving complete submissions is April 1st. The authors will be notified of the corresponding revisions by email on May 1st, so they can address any comments and suggestions submitted by June 30th.
The Scientific Committee will review the full texts and communicate the outcome of its selection of oral presentations for the Congress sessions on 15 July.
Second phase
In the second phase, depending on the number of texts received and the coherence of their thematic lines, papers likely to arouse the greatest interest, both in terms of quality and content, will be selected. The authors will then be invited to present their papers orally, for approximately fifteen minutes, within the framework of a specific thematic round table, and always in person. The Congress management reserves the right to assign the selected papers to the tables it considers most appropriate and to modify the number and theme of these tables. Whatever the case, to encourage maximum participation, there shall be no parallel tables.
Papers that are not selected for oral presentation will also be included in the Proceedings, as long as they respond to the comments received in both review phases and conform to the style guide provided by the Organising Committee when the acceptance of the proposals is communicated. Any authors who fail to pay the registration fees in due time and form, who do not comply with the corrections suggested in the successive reviews, who do not comply with the deadlines of these reviews, who do not comply with the criteria of originality and scientific rigour, or who do not follow the established editorial rules will be excluded from the publication.
The official languages of the Congress are Spanish, Galician and English, and may be used both in the papers and in the public sessions of the Congress.
FAQ
How many people can sign a paper?
One or two, and everyone signing must be registered at the Congress.
How many and how should images be submitted to papers?
Per paper, a maximum of eight images, colour and/or black and white, in JPG or TIF at 300 pp. with a maximum dimension of 20cm on the longer side of the image and a minimum of 7cm on the shorter side, are allowed.
Images must be single, and not contain several grouped together.
Can I submit more than one paper?
Yes, although if more than one is admitted, the author will have to choose one to be included in the proceedings, foregoing the publication of the rest.
Can I register without submitting a paper?
Yes. Regardless of whether a paper is submitted, the registration is open with the same considerations as for any other type of application, even if the submitted paper is not accepted.
If I’m not a member of Iberian Docomomo, can I become one before registering at the Congress?
Yes. This allows the new member of Iberian Docomomo to benefit from the lower registration fee.
